Department of Basic Science

Basic Science Department

Course Details:

The Department of Basic Science started from the inception of the college. Knowledge in basic science forms the base of Engineering. Department of Basic Science aims to fulfill this function most efficiently. This Department is devoted to foster the fundamental principles and understanding of science to enhance the students basic knowledge of Engineering. Its objective is to provide value-based education to the budding scientists and engineers. The Department comprises of different subjects of study namely Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, values and and English. The students of this department are highly benefitted by the knowledge and experience of many doctorates of the department. Well-experienced and highly qualified faculty members of the department have made consistent and strenuous efforts to improve the students learning, research and development processes. Besides academics the Department is actively involved in the development of students personality, communication and soft skills to boost them in the modern and globally competitive environment. The department has state-of-the-art laboratories and advanced department library facilities. It also encourages students to take up challenging projects and internships at the National and International level in order to fine-tune their technical skills. The Dept provides opportunities for them to join various student chapters such as NEN, SPIE, CII, Music Club, Drama Club, Photography Club etc. in addition to other extracurricular activities like Quiz, Annual Paper Presentation Competition (SPECTRUM), Robotics Workshop etc. It has opened avenues to promote Entrepreneurship among budding engineers and inbuilt in them the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility. The department also helps the students to acquire an English Communication skill to increase their proficiency in English Language which will enable them to cope up with the cut throat competition in the job market.

Message From HOD

It gives me immense pleasure to present brief report of Department of Basic Science. Since, the Basic Science subjects are the foundation subjects for all the branches of engineering and technology, Department of Basic Science imparts to build a firm base as part of the Engineering Education. The BS department plays a vital role in teaching basic sciences courses as prescribed by the curriculum of the VTU in I, II, III & IV year of B.Tech.

The Department enhances knowledge in subjects like Engineering Mathematics, Engineering Physics, Engineering Chemistry etc. Well educated, talented and dedicated Faculty and Staff Members are the backbone of this department. In addition to the primary teaching duties, all of them have their publications in National as well as International Journals of repute for attaining perfection in their profession.

The teaching module comprises of lectures, tutorials and practicals along with various other initiatives. Faculty members perform the role of a perfect facilitator as Mentor to each section. The methodology adopted in the classroom teaching is based on the application of innovation strategies, comprehensive lectures, regular assignments and active interaction between teachers and students. The purpose of inducing the subjects of Basic Science in Engineering study is to lay a solid foundation of basic concepts for innovative future with limitless opportunities. Therefore, the department acts as an active catalyst to develop perfect approach to unlock their hidden talent, personality and communication skills to fulfill the needs of young engineers.
